3 Simple Ways I’m Resetting My Life for the Rainy Season in Nigeria (and What I’m Buying to Make Life Easier)

Every season brings its own energy.

In Nigeria, the shift from the dry season to the rainy season is more than just a weather change. It changes how we live, how we shop, how we dress, and even how we care for our homes.

The rain comes with cooler evenings, muddy roads, longer nights, and sometimes… a little chaos if you’re not prepared.

Over the years, I’ve learned that the best way to enjoy the rainy season is to reset my life a little before it fully begins.

As a mum, content creator, and someone who believes in romanticising everyday life, I now treat this seasonal shift as a mini life reset.

Here are three things I’m doing to prepare for the rainy season — and the things I’m buying to make life easier.

1. Resetting My Home for Rainy Season Comfort

Rainy season in Nigeria means more time indoors.

And if your home isn’t comfortable, the season can quickly start feeling heavy.

So the first thing I do is refresh my living space.

Not anything dramatic — just small changes that make home feel calmer, cleaner and more organised.

What I’m Doing

  • Deep cleaning corners that gathered dust during harmattan
  • Washing curtains and rugs
  • Rearranging my living room for a cozier feel
  • Checking electrical appliances before heavy rain begins

As a single mum, I’ve learned that a peaceful home reduces stress more than people realise.

Rain hitting the roof, children relaxing, soft lighting in the evening — it can actually become a beautiful season.

What I’m Buying

To make life easier during the rainy months, I usually get:

  • Scented candles or diffusers (to keep the house smelling fresh)
  • Extra extension boxes for charging devices during long indoor days
  • A reliable freezer to store food and reduce market runs

I recently talked about my freezer experience here:

Having enough freezer space during rainy season honestly changes everything for food planning.

2. Resetting My Skincare Routine

Rainy season affects the skin in ways many people don’t expect.

Humidity increases, sweat behaves differently, and your skin may start feeling either oily or dull.

For me, this season is when I simplify my skincare routine.

What I’m Doing

Instead of using too many products, I focus on:

  • Proper cleansing
  • Deep hydration
  • Gentle exfoliation
  • Moisturising consistently

Healthy skin is something I’ve become more intentional about as I grow older.

And I’ve realised something important:

Consistency beats complicated routines.

If you’re curious about how I balance different skincare products, I wrote more about it here:

What I’m Buying

During rainy season, these are usually in my shopping basket:

  • Hydrating body lotion
  • Shea butter-based body creams
  • Gentle face cleansers
  • Face creams that brighten and smooth skin

Good skincare is not just about beauty.

It’s about feeling confident and taking care of yourself, especially when life already demands so much from you.

3. Resetting My Weekly Routine

Rainy season can easily disrupt routines.

Traffic becomes worse.
School runs get slower.
Market trips take longer.

So I intentionally simplify my weekly routine.

What I’m Doing

Instead of trying to do everything every day, I now structure my week better:

Rainy season routine example:

Monday — Content creation / work
Tuesday — Errands & shopping
Wednesday — Home organisation
Thursday — Writing / blogging
Friday — Family time / rest

This approach helps me stay productive without feeling overwhelmed.

Especially as a mum.

What I’m Buying to Make the Rainy Season Easier

Here are a few things that genuinely make Nigerian rainy season easier:

1. Durable Rubber Slippers

Because muddy roads are real.

2. A Good Umbrella

Cheap umbrellas don’t survive Lagos wind.

3. Extra Food Storage

Rain sometimes disrupts markets, so stocking up helps.

4. Waterproof Bags

Protects phones, chargers and documents.

5. Indoor Comfort Items

Things like cozy blankets, candles, or even better lighting.

Small purchases like these reduce daily stress during the season.

Why Seasonal Resets Matter

One thing motherhood has taught me is this:

Life becomes easier when you prepare instead of reacting.

The rainy season will come whether we like it or not.

But with a few small adjustments, it can become a season of:

  • rest
  • reflection
  • productivity
  • cozy family moments

Instead of frustration.

And sometimes, the best reset isn’t a big life change.

It’s simply cleaning your home, refreshing your routine, and buying a few things that make everyday life easier.
